Fujitsu announced on March 30, 2026, the launch of ‘Fujitsu Application Transform,’ a generative AI service powered by Fujitsu Kozuchi. This service analyzes the source code of legacy systems and automatically generates design documents, reducing related work time by approximately 97% and helping to modernize enterprise systems.
Service Launch Background
Fujitsu Limited announced from its headquarters in Kawasaki, Japan, that the generative AI service is now officially available in Japan as a SaaS solution. It performs in-depth analysis of COBOL and other source code within existing enterprise legacy systems, helping users understand system content without requiring specialized knowledge.
Core Technical Advantages
The service utilizes Fujitsu’s proprietary code analysis technology and ‘Fujitsu Knowledge Graph–Enhanced RAG for Software Engineering.’ By correlating vast amounts of source code, it effectively avoids omissions and AI hallucinations, producing highly accurate and readable design documents. Compared to general-purpose generative AI, this service demonstrates superior performance in processing the complex COBOL language.
Efficacy Data and Verification
Verification shows the service can reduce the time spent on source code comprehension and design document generation by about 97%. Additionally, the comprehensiveness of the analysis is improved by 95%, and the readability of the design documents is 60% higher than with traditional methods. This technology builds on the foundation of the software analysis visualization service from February 2025, further standardizing the analysis process.
Future Applications and Outlook
Now live as a SaaS service in Japan, Fujitsu plans to offer implementation support services concurrently. Starting in fiscal year 2026, it will progressively roll out features such as source code refactoring, automatic code rewriting, and operational support. Toshihiro Horiuchi, Managing Executive Officer at SMBC Nikko Securities Inc., noted that this service combines Fujitsu’s years of system development expertise with generative AI to genuinely advance the modernization of legacy systems.
