Recently, a team of AI technology experts, including Cang He, Liu Cong, Jia Mu, Daishu Di, and Moyu Xiaoli, announced the official open-sourcing of the ‘WorkBuddy Practical Handbook’. This project, completed in a 7-day collaboration, aims to provide a detailed and systematic practical guide for Tencent’s AI office agent, WorkBuddy, filling the gap for high-quality tutorials beyond the official documentation.
Project Background and Positioning
As large language model technology advances, AI Agents have become a key tool for boosting productivity. Unlike agents focused on code generation, such as OpenAI Codex, Tencent WorkBuddy positions itself in the broader office domain. To help users better leverage this tool, the team initiated this handbook project with the goal of creating a practical manual that even general users can easily get started with.

The project is not only open-sourced on GitHub but has also deployed a globally accessible online reading site via Cloudflare, allowing users to consult it anytime.
Core Content Structure of the Handbook
The ‘WorkBuddy Practical Handbook’ features a comprehensive content structure, divided into four core sections:
- User Manual: Aimed at beginners, this section introduces the basic functions and operations of WorkBuddy.
- Practical Case Studies: As the most valuable part of the book, this section gathers the hands-on experiences of multiple authors in real-world work scenarios. For example, it provides a detailed breakdown of how to use WorkBuddy for knowledge management and how to effectively use specific expert groups like the ‘AI Video Creation Team’ (used over 27,900 times) and the ‘GEO Expert’ (used over 16,500 times).
- Advanced System: This section covers advanced applications such as multi-agent collaboration and automated workflows, helping users automate more complex tasks.
- Roles and Industries: This part offers customized application ideas for different professional roles and industry scenarios. It includes cases showcased at the WorkBuddy Demo Day, jointly held by the Wuhan AI community and Tencent Cloud, such as a lawyer using WorkBuddy to organize litigation cases.
Practical Support for Different Users
To meet the needs of users at different levels, the handbook’s content is carefully segmented. For personnel in specific roles, the project team has created ‘Role-based Roadmaps’ that clearly show how different professions can deeply integrate WorkBuddy to enhance professional efficiency.
For new users just starting with WorkBuddy, the appendix provides numerous ready-to-use ‘Prompt Templates’ to lower the entry barrier. Furthermore, considering the growing number of built-in experts and skills in WorkBuddy, the appendix also includes a ‘Scenario Cheat Sheet’. Users can quickly search and match the most suitable functions for specific work scenarios, significantly improving the tool’s usability.
Open Source and Community Collaboration
As an open knowledge base, the project’s entire content is hosted on GitHub. The community is encouraged to contribute by submitting Pull Requests (PRs) to share more excellent industry application cases and collectively improve the handbook.

One of the project initiators, Cang He, previously led the CodexGuide open-source project, which garnered 2.6k stars, and has successful experience in building community documentation for AI tools. The release of the ‘WorkBuddy Practical Handbook’ once again demonstrates the significant value of the tech community in promoting the popularization and application of cutting-edge technology.
